AWA TRAINING

Writing changes lives, and this training can change yours. Learn the skills you need to lead writing groups using the acclaimed, time-tested Amherst Writers & Artists (AWA) method. Over the past 20 years, AWA has trained over 600 individuals from across the U.S., Canada, and Europe to help writers express themselves more authentically, and with greater enjoyment in the process of writing.

The intensive five-day training, led by Patricia Lee Lewis, provides leadership skills, hands-on experience, and practical information about how to form successful writing groups for writers from all levels and backgrounds. This training can take you a long way towards the writing life you have dreamed of!

PARTICIPANTS WILL LEARN:

The elements of the Amherst Writers & Artists method.
How to keep a writing group safe, and why that is vital to creativity.
How to respond helpfully to group members’ writing.
What exercises and prompts can trigger strong writing.
How to structure a writing group session.
How to start a business running writing workshops.
How to get grants to lead writing groups for people in schools, hospitals, housing projects, prisons and other specific sites.

Trainees become part of a large network of other AWA writing workshop leaders around the US and in other countries.
As Affiliates, trainees  have access to marketing, leadership and writing ideas and resources.
Cost: $2000 includes tuition, room and board, and all training materials and activities.
